Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the more common questions we have when it comes to print. If there’s a question here you’re not sure about or isn’t in the list, remember you can get in touch with us!

Getting Started

Can I get my order sooner?

We can provide a next-day turnaround. If you require this service please call us on 01753 887177 and let us know of your requirements. There are however additional costs included for this service.

What file-format should I submit?

Ideally we’d prefer that you provide us with a PDF, however, we can accept high-resolution JPG, PNG, EPS and SVG files.

When supplying a PDF, we ask that you add 3mm bleed and your fonts are embedded to avoid any formatting or font issues.

Our staff will check your file before printing and will try to get in touch with you if there’s an issue.

How do I make a print ready PDF?

Word:

In word, go to File, then Save As. At the bottom of the window, you’ll see options for “File Format”, click PDF within this selection box. You’ll be presented with two options, both are fine but “Best for Printing” is the preferred option.

Photoshop:

Make sure your artwork has a 3 mm bleed (image area outside the trim area), and all fonts used are loaded. Go to: File / Save as under Format select ‘Photoshop PDF’ save, this takes you to the ‘Export Adobe PDF window, under ‘Adobe PDF Preset’ select ‘PDF/X-4:2008’ then Save PDF.

Illustrator:

Make sure your artwork has a 3 mm bleed (image area outside the trim area), and all fonts used are loaded. Go to: File / Save as under Format select ‘Adobe PDF’ save, this takes you to the ‘Export Adobe PDF window, under ‘Adobe PDF Preset’ select ‘PDF/X-4:2008’ select ‘Marks and Bleed’ and click crop marks on and add 3mm bleed select Save PDF.

Indesign:

Go to: File / Export under Format select ‘Adobe PDF’ save, this takes you to the ‘Export Adobe PDF window, under ‘Adobe PDF Preset’ select ‘PDF/X-4:2008’ select ‘Marks and Bleed’ and click crop marks on and add 3mm bleed select Export.

Our staff will check your file before printing and will try to get in touch with you if there’s an issue.

What is "Bleed"?

Bleed is the ‘edge’ of a piece of artwork that goes beyond the trim edges of the printed piece. It’s important that backgrounds or images that touch the edge of the printed piece ‘bleed’ outside of the trim line to make sure that when it’s trimmed after print there is no risk of a white ‘edge’ appearing on the finished piece. We advise 3mm bleed on all artwork.

Our staff will check your file before printing and will try to get in touch with you if there’s an issue.

How do I embed fonts?

Embedding fonts into your original design will stop them changing or appearing differently after they have been printed.

You can embed/outline your fonts in Illustrator or InDesign by opening your document and highlighting the text, then select ‘Type’ in the top menu and choose ‘Create Outlines’. Your text is now grouped together in outline form – just resave your files and you’re done.

To embed fonts in Microsoft Word, you can open your document and select ‘Options’ from the drop down menu. Once you have ‘Options’ open switch over to the ‘Save’ tab. Select ‘Embed Fonts in the File’ and click ok – then resave your file.

Our staff will check your file before printing and will try to get in touch with you if there’s an issue.
