Fans of cider brand Somersby will noticed the drink has had a facelift, as Carlsberg Group has unveiled new branding for the alcoholic beverage.

The company wanted to encourage more people to buy the drink by encapsulating the feeling of happiness, positivity and relaxation in the design, according to Packaging Europe.

It also wanted to keep the branding simple, so it could be adapted over time to meet different needs of its diverse market.

Carlsberg Group’s global marketing director Pernille Arnt said: “Our refreshed brand and scalable brand system now ensure that we can build the brand’s distinctiveness across different market environments and different life cycles of the brand without diluting the master brand.”

It was added that the new look allows the drink to stand out, as it is “refreshingly different”.

The design comprises an apple tree, with its canopy showcasing various colours and textures to create a “distinctive, yet dynamic” image.

This also allows the tree to be used across its portfolio, with the outline remaining fixed and its canopy changing depending on its flavour.

Somersby’s new brand will be available across 50 different markets around the world, with most of these being in Europe and Asia. It focuses its sales – and therefore, its marketing strategy – on Asia, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Poland, Sweden and the Ukraine.

Rebranding could have a huge influence on consumer behaviour, which means this design change might have a positive impact for Carlsberg Group. Indeed, the Metro recently reported logos are so important to the public that Brexit Party’s image of a ‘fallen over house’ might actually be perceived as an arrow, subconsciously influencing voters to tick their box when voting in the upcoming General Election.
